Vintage Castrol Wakefield Double Sided Enamel / Porcelain Advertising Sign
£375
Item: Castrol Wakefield double-sided enamel advertising sign
Circa: 1930s
Enamel/Porcelain heavy metal double-sided sign in very good condition for age, good shine to enamel. The sign bears the royal warrants of appointment to His Majesty the King and to the Prince of Wales. The sign also bears the makers name J.W. Burton. There is age-related wear to include some lose of enamel to both sides, minor scratches and an attempted restoration to the letter “T” on one side. However, the sign is still brilliant on both sides and makes an outstanding presentation.
This is truly a museum piece – it came from the Mouldsworth Motor Museum near Chester, England, which closed in early 2013. The sign was made by J.W. Bruton & Sons, in their shop at 87-89 Hedge Lane, Plamers Green, London in the 1930’s. The company was dissolved in 1946 when J.W. Bruton, retired and the business was sold.
