Item: Gibbs Toys Never Stop See Saw
Origin: USA, c. 1905
Made of tin and wood, this spinning toy was featured in the Gibbs Toy catalogue in 1905. The Gibbs Manufacturing Company of Canton, Ohio, began making toys in the 1890s. The toys were usually constructed of tin and/or wood, and often with brightly lithographed paper coatings.
This spinning see-saw has a wooden base at either end with two tin lithographed characters – a boy and a girl – poised at either end of the ‘see’saw’. Simply turn the toy upside down, and the couple spin around until they meet the ground. A wonderfully simple toy, that has survived remarkably well over its 100+ years.
Condition:
Good working condition, the toy lists a bit to one side, but this doesn’t hamper its functioning. The tin characters are bright, with some scratches and losses commensurate with age and wear.
